UW-Oshkosh 88, St. Thomas 85 (OT)
ST. PAUL — Junior guard Tim Dvorak scored 21 of his game-high 33 points after halftime and visiting UW-Oshkosh made 22 of 25 free throws to rally past St. Thomas 88-85 in overtime Saturday night in NCAA Tournament second-round play before a crowd of 1,805.

The Titans (24-5) move on the round of 16 next Friday at a site to be determined. They rallied from a 42-31 halftime deficit by shooting 65% in the second half and 55% on the game. They made 4-of-5 at the line in the first half, 15-of-17 in the second half, and 3-of-3 in overtime.

The Tommies (24-4) had an 11-game winning streak snapped and closed their season with a 14-1 home record.

For St. Thomas, senior Mark Buri had 25 points and seven assists and closed
his career with 1,494 points good for fifth on the St. Thomas charts. Junior
center Mark Paulson scored a career-high 23 points off the bench on 10-of-10
FG shooting for the Tommies. Paulson made 6-of-6 shots from the field in his
previous game Feb. 28.

Brendan Finn's 25-foot 3-point basket with :05 left in regulation forged a
77-77 tie for the Tommies, and a subsequent Oshkosh shot rimmed out to force
overtime.

The Titans led by four in overtime. Finn was fouled and made three of three free throws with 54 seconds left to cut the Titans' lead to 84-83. But Oshkosh's Nick Scherer made 2-of-2 free throws with :08 to go for an 88-85 lead. Buri's 3-point try at the end of overtime was blocked as time ran out.

Scott Sowinski had 20 points and nine rebounds and Scherer added 16 for the Titans, who were outrebounded 34-25. The Tommies only had nine turnovers but made only 11 of 20 at the foul line.

Finn had 14 points, Kevin Fitzgerald had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds, and Jimmy Sioris had 10 points. The Tommies shot 65% in the first half and 52% on the game. Buri and Fitzgerald played all 45 minutes.

It was the Tommies' first overtime defeat since 1992 covering their eight extra-session games.
