Adolphus 88, Buena Vista 60 The Gusties' tenacious full-court pressure forced the Beavers into 15 first half turnovers en route to a 37-19 lead heading into the locker room. The Beavers could only manage 28.6% from the floor against the Gustavus pressure, while the Gusties knocked down 50% of their shots. In the second half, the Gusties extended their lead to as many as 35 points with 6:30 remaining into the game on two Eric Nelson foul shots. Nelson scored a game-high 17 points for the Gusties on a 5-for-8 performance from the floor. Hans Sviggum scored 16 points, Kirk Walberg added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Derek Nelson tossed in 11 points for the Gusties. Doug Espenson was the other Gusties in double digits with 10 points. Adam Jones led the Beavers with 10 points, making five of seven free throws. Gustavus shot 50% for the game, while Buena Vista fired 39%. The Gusties ripped off 19 steals on 28 Beaver turnovers en route to the 28-point win. Gustavus will face Carthage in the next round of the NCAA Championship. |
