Brockport State 80, Trinity (Conn.) 61
BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Mike Medbury scored 18 points and had seven rebounds to lead SUNY Brockport to an 80-61 victory over Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday night in the NCAA Tournament second Round at Tuttle North Gymnasium.

With the victory, the ninth-ranked Golden Eagles improve to 27-2. Trinity finishes up with a 19-6 record. Brockport will play Amherst (21-6) while Rochester (22-4) and Babson (25-4) will also meet Friday night in the Sectionals. The Sectionals' site will be announced Sunday. Amherst was an 82-77 winner at home over Western Connecticut.

Medbury also had four steals and scored in double figures for the 28th straight time, as Brockport returns to the "Sweet 16" for the second consecutive season. Bob Skoczylas scored 13 points and Mike Masters added 12 points for Brockport. The Golden Eagles shot 42% for the game and 46% on the night.

Colin Tabb led all players with 20 points with three assists and two steals for the Bantams. He also made eight of nine from the line on the night. Ryan Uszenski added 14 points and four steals for Trinity, which shot 43% for the game but 18% from the 3-point arc (3-for-17).

Brockport took a 32-24 lead into the locker room at the half, and led 37-26 with 17:33 left in the second half. But the Bantams went on a 8-0 run in the next 3:02 to get within three at 37-34 with 14:31 remaining. Brockport then went on a 16-7 run in the next 5:31 to take a 53-41 lead with nine minutes left.

"We got a little tired after the first half," commented Brockport Coach Nelson Whitmore. "Depth and defense is what won this basketball game for us.

"Basketball is a game of spurts. I told our guys at halftime that the first couple of minutes would be key. Their intensity was there to start the second half. Eventually we got it going. We have been in that situation before when the opponent has gotten close but they have never gotten the lead."

"Brockport came out on their home floor with great intensity defensively," said Trinity Coach Stan Ogrodnik. "They put us in a whole that proved too difficult to get out of.

"They are a very good team," continued Ogrodnik, "the kind of team that can do something in this tournament.

"I am proud of what this team did," said Ogrodnik, "particularly because of our seniors. It's the best group we've had in terms of both on and off the court."
