Trinity (Conn.) 75, Colby-Sawyer 47
HARTFORD, Conn. — Senior tri-captain swingman Colin Tabb scored a game-high 30 points to lead Trinity (Conn.) to a 75-47 win over visiting Colby-Sawyer in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Oosting Gymnasium this evening.

Trinity, which received an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and reaching the finals of the league tournament, improves to 19-5 for the season. The Bantams will play at Brockport State in western New York on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. in its second round game. The Chargers finish the season at 22-6.

Trinity jumped out to an early lead, 18-4, with 12:37 remaining in the first half, as Tabb scored the game's first eight points. The Bantam maintained their double-digit lead for the majority of the half, before the Chargers closed to within nine in the final minute on a pair of free throws by senior forward Adam Tuttle. Tabb returned the favor with two foul shots as the half closed with the Bantams ahead, 33-22. Tabb had 16 points in the first half for Trinity, which held the Chargers to eight field goals in the half and a 32% field goal percentage. Senior center Grant Kelly paced the Chargers with eight first-half points.

The second stanza saw more of the same, as Tabb scored six of the first seven points to give Trinity a 40-24 lead with 14:37 remaining in the game. The Trinity defense, limited the Chargers to seven field goals in the second half, as the Bantams cruised to an easy triumph. Colby-Sawyer shot 26% from the field for the game and committed 16 turnovers.

Tabb added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals to his 30 points, sinking 10 out of 16 shots from the field. He made five out of nine shots from 3-point range and all five of his free throws. Senior tri-captain forward Bryan Dion added seven points and a team-high 10 boards, while senior tri-captain guard Matt Jones was second on the team with nine points on three 3-pointers. Trinity made 12 out of 27 shots from long range (44%).

Kelly and junior swingman Jay Como each scored 10 points for the Chargers, while junior forward Ethan Betts totaled a game-high 11 boards.
