Lewis & Clark 81, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 59
PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark started slowly, hitting only three of 18 3-pointers in the first half, but rolled in the second half to an 81-59 first-round home victory Thursday over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in an NCAA Tournament first-round game.

The Pioneers got a complete team effort in the win. Colin Oriard charted a career-high five 3-pointers on his way to 27 points in leading the Pioneers. John Mietus filled in 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kristofer Speier played his best game since returning from a knee injury with 14 points and seven caroms. Scott Davis had 11 points and seven assists. Danny Winchester also had a career-high seven assists.

Claremont was led by Bob Donlan with 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists. David Cann added 13 points.

The Pioneers cruised to a nine-point lead three different times in the first half led by the inside play of Speier. CMS, however, worked its way back to close the half by cutting the margin to 35-33.

The Stags tied the game with the first bucket of the second half, but L&C answered in a big way.

Jeff Auxier's three-ball gave the Pios the lead for good on their way to a 12-2 run. Claremont would get no closer than three the rest of the way as L&C rained in nine second-half 3-pointers and shot 62% from the field.
