84, Suffolk 77 The Cougars trailed by as many as nine points in the first half. Suffolk sophomore Chris Fritch led the Rams with 10 first-half points. The Rams built the lead shooting 51.2% from the floor and 50.0% from behind the arc (5-for-10). Clark's sophomore Dave McNamara's 3-pointer in the last minute of the first half cut the Rams' lead to three as the teams entered the locker room. Clark, making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after reaching last year's Elite Eight, used a 27-11 run to start the second half and take an 11-point lead with 10 minutes to go. Cougars sophomore Brent Kenneway led the way with seven points during the run. Kenneway ended the game with 16 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Suffolk countered with a 17-8 run to cut the Cougars' lead to two with two minutes to go. Suffolk senior Jason Luisi had 19 points on 8-for-18 shooting for the Rams, including two 3-pointers in the last 2:30 minutes. A steal by Clark's junior Sean Fleming in the last minute and four free-throws by the Cougars sealed the win and helped the Cougars advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Clark will travel to Staten Island on Saturday, March 2, for a 7:00 p.m. start. Junior Tom Carey chipped in 16 points including three 3-pointers for the 17-11 Rams. The Rams ended the game with five players in double figures. Suffolk's senior Winston Daley added a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. McNamara ended the game with 19 points including 5-for-9 from behind the arc while junior Rob Skowyra had 16 points, three rebounds, and seven assists. |
