62, Lewis & Clark 52 The game was tied 27-27 at halftime. Chicago (24-3) led the entire half until a pair of free throws by Kristofer Speier evened the score with 1:11 left in the period. Lewis & Clark (21-7) built its biggest lead of the night at 33-29 on a jumper by Scott Davis with 17:06 left in the contest. Davis led the Pioneers with 16 points. Chicago regained the lead for good at 34-33 on a layup by Reich with 16:17 to go. Chicago led by as many as 10 at 49-39 midway through the second half. Lewis & Clark closed to within three at 54-51 on a free throw by Davis with 1:58 left, but the Pioneers could get no closer. Jim Waichulis finished with 10 points for the Maroons, who won their 14th in a row. John Mietus collected 11 points and 10 rebounds for Lewis & Clark, while teammate Colin Oriard added 10 points and 13 boards in a losing effort. Chicago will meet No. 17 Illinois Wesleyan (22-6) Saturday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. for the sectional championship and a trip to the NCAA Division III national semifinals, which will be held in Salem, Va., on Mar. 16-17. Illinois Wesleyan defeated Elmhurst 63-60 in Fridays first semifinal matchup. |
