Elmhurst 78, Washington U. 77
ELMHURST, Ill. — Ryan Knuppel hit a long-three pointer with four seconds left to lift Elmhurst to a 78-77 win against the Bear men's basketball team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night.

The Bears led 77-72 with just under two minutes left, but Knuppel, who hit eight three-pointers on the night, connected three times in the last 1:38 to lift the Bluejays to the come-from-behind win. Elmhurst got the quick jump, leading 26-13 midway through the first half.

WU responded, though, with a 9-1 run to close the period as the two teams went into the locker room tied at 37. The Bears kept the momentum going in the second half as they opened with a 14-7 run to go up 51-44 with 15:02 remaining. Washington U. then stretched the margin to its biggest point at 62-52 with 10:01 left.

Elmhust (23-4) made several runs, but never took the lead. They got within two at 68-66 with 5:39 remaining, but the Bears pushed the margin back to seven at 73-66 on a three-pointer by Dustin Tylka and a dunk by Chris Alexander. Justin Carley hit a three to trim the lead to 73-69 at 3:52, but Elmhurst wouldn't score again until Knuppel hit the first of his three consecutive threes, all inside the last two minutes.

Alexander led the Bears with 21 points, seven rebounds and a career-high five blocks. Tylka finished with 16 points, Chris Jeffries had 13 points and six rebounds and Jarriot Rook had 10 points. Ryan Patton scored nine points and dished seven assists.

The Bears finish the season with a 23-4 record, tying the school record for wins in a season.
