Aki Trent led City College of New York (14-15) with 15 points and Neil Harewood had 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Hilleary hit 9 of 13 shots and blocked two. He has now made 36 of his last 49 shots (73.4%). Maloney finished 7-for-11 from the field and Rice was 7-for-10. CUA’s starters scored all but 11 of its points. Maloney, who added six assists, moved into sixth place on the Cardinals’ all-time scoring list with 1,551 career points. CUA, leading 46-44 with 15:57 to go, assumed command with a 21-6 run to lead 67-50 with 8:13 left. Rice ignited the spurt with a 3-pointer and Will Morley (13 points, team-high seven rebounds) ended it with a layup that turned into a three-point play. Maloney assisted both baskets and scored seven consecutive points during the spree. Rice finished with five assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. His 17 points were a career playoff high. The Cardinals hit 18 of 22 free throws (81.8%) and 29 of 63 field goals (46.0%). The Beavers, who 11 got points from Vernon Dantzler and 10 points apiece from Ralph Perez and Obinna Efobi, shot 39.7% (25 of 63) from the field. The contest marked the likely final home game for CUA seniors Kurt Zeisler, Mike Hartman, Tim Judge, Maloney and Rice. Hartman scored four points and had four rebounds, Judge had four points and three assists, and Zeisler had two points and two rebounds. The class improved to 95-21 (.819) since the beginning of the 1997-98 season. |
