SALEM, Va. -- Senior guard Chris Gerlufsen netted a team-high 18 points to lead Randolph-Macon past Roanoke 62-55. The win is the 400th for coach Hal Nunnally, and the 1,100th in the history of the Yellow Jackets program.
Junior guard Dewayne Bullock was Roanoke's leading scorer with 10.
An appreciative Civic Center crowd paid tribute to coach Glenn VanWieren Wednesday as he guided his Hope Flying Dutchmen to a milestone 400th victory by topping Alma 96-78. The Flying Dutchmen extended the nation's longest winning streak to 16 games. Hope is 5-0 in the MIAA and 16-1 overall. In 21 seasons,
Van Wieren has coached the Flying Dutchmen to a 400-124 record. It took just 111 games for him to move from his 300th win to the 400th, a four-year winning clip of 90%.
Senior Dan Van Hekken led all scorers with 23 points behind five three-pointers. Senior Joel Holstege added 12 points and had seven assists.
WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Jerry Scheve became the all-time winningest coach in Wilmington women's basketball history with a 57-53 victory over Hanover on Jan. 20 at Fred Raizk Arena. The win was the 119th of Scheve's career, surpassing the 118 wins Sharon Sims amassed from 1978-79 until 1989-90.
Now in his eighth season, Scheve has a 119-73 career record. The Lady Quakers have won 10 of their last 11 games and are 14-3 on the season.
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Flying Dutchmen made 38 of their 51 shots to finish with a shooting percentage of 74.5% in a 94-75 MIAA victory against Adrian. Hope shot 78% (18 of 23) in the first half to set the tone for the game. Hope led 46-35 at halftime and then scored the first 11 points of the second half to take command.
David Meulenberg (9-for-12) and Dan Van Hekken (8-for-12) paced the Flying Dutchmen with 22 points apiece while Joel Holstege (6-for-7) added 15 points and with 10 assists. Hope's 17-game winning streak remains the longest among all NCAA Division III teams.
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Division I Princeton returned from its 16-day break and defeated New Jersey 59-50. Joe Amari scored 20 points off the bench and Bill Burr added 11 for New Jersey (14-2) as the Lions faced a Division I foe for the first time since defeating Rider in overtime, 75-69, Feb. 12, 1990.
"It's a whole different ballgame between Division I and Division III," New Jersey coach John Castaldo told Sports Ticker. "But I think our league can be competitive. I have nothing but praise for my players in terms of their intensity, their aggressiveness and their focus."
Bridgewater outscored Randolph-Macon 6-2 in the final 57 seconds to secure a 66-61 victory. Senior forward Jennifer Young paced the Eagles with 19 points, while junior forward Connie Ritchie added 15 points and 10 rebounds to the Bridgewater cause.
Trailing 30-28 at the half, BC outscored RMC 38-31 in the second for the win. Four Yellow Jackets players scored in double figures, including Allison Beightol who scored 14.
Bridgewater, ranked #1 in the South Region, improved to 15-0, 12-0 in the ODAC, and extended its conference lead to 2.5 games over Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 5 in the South, fell to 10-3, 8-1.
SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- While Division II Bloomsburg used its superior height for a 46-26 rebounding advantage, it couldn't stop the offensive game of Susquehanna's 6-5 sophomore post player Mike Barrette. Barrette scored 16 on 7-for-9 shooting from the field. He drilled a three-pointer from the right side with 1:11 left to tie the game at 70, and hit the 12-footer from the right baseline off the dribble with :36 left to give his team the lead for good as the Crusaders pulled the upset, 75-73.
The game was still in doubt until sophomore power forward Ed Antoszewski stole a pass by Wessell and was fouled with :19.3 left. Antoszewski made one of two free throws, but Barrette got the rebound and was fouled. While he missed the free throw, the Crusaders again got the rebound, and senior co-captain and point guard Pete Long sealed it with a couple of free throws.
WASHINGTON -- Catholic University will hold a memorial Mass for former player and coach Jack Bruen on Saturday evening at 6:30 on campus. Bruen, who graduated from Catholic in 1972 and coached there from 1982-89 died of pancreatic cancer last Dec. 19.

Lebanon Valley junior power forward Andy Panko scored a career-high 45 points to lead the Flying Dutchmen to an 81-69 victory against Franklin & Marshall. Panko scored 25 consecutive points in the second half and shot 14-for-23 from the field, 17-for-20 from the free throw line.
Franklin & Marshall, hurt by injuries and player defections, fell to 6-7.
Hope extended its winning streak to 15 games Saturday with a dramatic 87-85 overtime victory against rival Calvin before a capacity Calvin Fieldhouse crowd and regional television audience. Coach Glenn VanWieren's Flying Dutchmen needed to rally from a ten-point halftime deficit to claim their fourth straight conference victory.
The win was Hope's ninth consecutive against Calvin and brings the storied rivalry to within one decision of being tied. Calvin now leads the all-time series 70-69. Full story.
