Babson senior captain Kathleen King became the third player in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds as she helped lead the Beavers to an 82-32 victory over visiting WPI in NEWMAC women's basketball action at Staake Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Having now won 55 straight games against NEWMAC opponents, the No. 16 Beavers improved to 15-2 on the season and 11-0 in league play. Entering the contest with 993 career boards, King reached the coveted 1,000-rebound mark when she hauled in her seventh of the night at the offensive end with 18:11 left in the second half. No. 1 Amherst rolled over No. 23 Williams 80-58 behind another big night for Caroline Stedman. She scored 22 points in 34 minutes for the unbeaten Lord Jeffs. Amherst used a 28-6 run before the half to blow the game open.
No. 4 Calvin hit a school-record 16 three-pointers in rolling over Albion 106-59. The win stopped the Britons' 11-game winning streak. Sixth-ranked DePauw won its 15th consecutive game, shooting 60 percent from the floor and never trailing on the way to a 90-53 win at Wittenberg. Alex Gasaway led the Tigers with a career-high 28 points on 13-of-15 shooting, while grabbing nine rebounds. No. 14 UW-Eau Claire survived a trip to UW-Superior, escaping with a 61-56 win. Fifteenth-ranked Franklin got 26 from Sarah Condra to beat Transylvania 67-59.
Haverford is only 8-5 in the Centennial Conference but the Fords are 3-0 against the top two teams after beating No. 18 Muhlenberg 58-55. Taylor Kreider recorded a double-double, and had a steal and a lay-up with two seconds left to lift Elizabethtown past Lycoming 72-70 in overtime.
Macalester knocked off St. Olaf 59-50, behind 19 points from Holly Schiedermayer. The loss dropped the Oles back into a tie for third in the MIAC with St. Mary's (Minn.), which won 55-50 at St. Ben's. Conference leader St. Thomas jumped out to an early 18-point lead against Hamline en route to its 16th consecutive win.
