Strong sets record

More news about: Mary Washington | Scranton

Scranton coach Mike Strong recorded his 758th career coaching victory, setting a new Division III women's basketball record, as his Lady Royals defeated Cabrini 46-43.

Strong broke Phil Kahler's record but wasn't allowed in the gym to see it happen. He was ejected after picking up two technical fouls with 10:58 left and Scranton leading 33-31 in the second half. First year assistant Stephanie Witko took over and Alison Sweeney drilled two three pointers to give the Lady Royals enough space for the win and the record. Strong returned to the gym to embrace his team after the final buzzer.

No. 20 Mount Union went to No. 25 Wilmington and dominated the Quakers 76-55. The Purple Raiders used a 23-11 run to build 41-28 halftime lead and never looked back. Mount Union is 8-1, 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Ohio Northern leads the conference after rolling over Marietta 80-36.

No. 21 Mary Washington beat Christopher Newport 52-48 to remain undefeated. Katie Wimmer scored 24 points for the Eagles. Tiffany Gregorich dropped a career-high 33 points and No. 15 UW-River Falls dumped Simpson 75-59.

Kimi Takaoka beat the buzzer and Chapman beat Puget Sound 72-70. All five Panther starters scored double digits. No. 18 Hope defeated Ithaca 61-50 for its ninth straight victory.
