Wilkes women's coach released

More news about: Wilkes

Wilkes has announced that it will begin a search for a new women's basketball coach to replace Rachel Emmerthal. The Colonels were 6-19 this past season and 34-116 over her tenure.

“We appreciate the commitment and dedication Rachel Emmerthal has given to our women's basketball program over the past six seasons,” said Paul Adams, the school's vice president of student affairs.

In the 2009-10 season, Emmerthal led the Lady Colonels to an 11-13 overall record, recording nine more wins than the previous year.  That turnaround was the sixth-best in the nation that season.

Emmerthal joined the Wilkes coaching staff in 2005. She had spent two seasons as the head coach at Centenary, where her teams compiled a 12-38 record, doubling the win total in her second season and making the Skyline Conference tournament.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
