Defending champs run table in SCAC No. 8 DePauw rallied from a halftime deficit and held off a second-half run by No. 25 Oglethorpe to win 76-73 on the road in the SCAC regular-season finale. Junior guard Cassie Pruzin hit back-to-back three-pointers and added a layup for an eight-point burst after Oglethorpe had cut the Tigers' lead to 62-61 with 4:30 left. Oglethorpe cut the lead back to 72-71 before Gretchen Haehl hit a jumper with 40 seconds left and Pruzin added two free throws with 6.4 seconds left to hold off the Stormy Petrels. Pruzin finished with a team-high 23 points. The defending national champions, who had already clinched the top seed in the SCAC Tournament, finished the conference schedule a perfect 14-0. The men's teams both controlled their own destiny and won on Sunday, as the Maroons upended No. 6 Brandeis 74-66 to improve to 17-7, 10-3 in the league, while Washington U. defeated NYU to go to 19-5, 10-3. The women's teams needed help from Emory, which came through with an upset win at Rochester to leave Chicago and Wash U tied for first. Sunday's men's scores. The Oglethorpe-DePauw men's game was similarly thrilling, with Oglethorpe winning 86-80 in double overtime. Oglethorpe survived despite missing two free throws in the final second of the first overtime, either of which would have clinched the win. Rochester avenged its midseason loss at Emory and helped its at-large bid candidacy with a 76-63 win Sunday afternoon. The Yellowjackets improved to 19-5 after making the tournament last season at 18-7. | |
