Capital puzzlement
Greg Tyson Jr. tied for the game high with 16 points.
The Student Princes came out looking like kings at Capital on Wednesday night as Heidelberg beat the No. 8 Crusaders 80-74. Capital had already wrapped up the top seed in the OAC tournament, but could drop from its No. 1 spot in the regional rankings.

The Student Princes, who went from .500 a season ago to 19-5, 13-4 in the league, were led by Shawn Shriver and Greg Tyson Jr. who each had a game-high 16 points, dropping the Crusaders to 15-2 in league play. Hope, ranked No. 3 both regionally and nationally, may be in position to take advantage after beating Calvin. Same for No. 12 Wooster (second in region), which got past Allegheny. Elsewhere, the top four spots in the CCIW were set, though the order is yet to be determined, after No. 10 Augustana, Elmhurst and Wheaton each secured wins, joining Illinois Wesleyan in the league tournament.

The Vikings clinched at least a share of the regular-season title and secured the top seed by topping IWU for the seventh straight time. All five starters scored in double figures for Augustana on senior night.

UW-Whitewater got back on track, handling UW-Oshkosh, 66-51. The top four teams in the WIAC standings are a game apart with Whitewater and victorious UW-Stevens Point even at 12-4.

No. 22 Occidental won the battle of SCIAC co-leaders, beating Cal Lutheran 67-63. No. 17 Ursinus maintained its status as the hottest team in the Mid-Atlantic, though the Bears needed overtime to dispatch Haverford. Nick Shattuck scored 25, including the tying hoop with 1.7 seconds left. Haverford had a chance to win in regulation but missed a foul shot with 0.8 seconds left.

Top 25 teams were a perfect 11-0 in women's action Wednesday, with unbeatens Hope and Thomas More both winning by large margins. No. 4 UW-Whitewater and No. 23 UW-Eau Claire remained tied atop the WIAC after both won.

Chari' Cooper moved into fourth place on the NCAA's all-time rebounds list, adding 13 to her total as No. 7 Kean drubbed Richard Stockton. There's a three-way battle for the top seed in the NJAC, with the Cougars, William Paterson and New Jersey all 10-2.

Central's men made 16 three-pointers, but it took a late hoop from Keith Pedersen to surprise Buena Vista. Worcester Tech matched that total in nearly doubling Wheaton (Mass.).
Montclair State coach Ted Fiore got his 300th career win, one over New Jersey City which put the Red Hawks in the NJAC playoffs.

Maryville (Mo.) won its 74th consecutive SLIAC game, surviving Webster 67-60. The CUNYAC women's final will be a rematch of the 2007 contest with Baruch looking to avenge last year's stunning loss to Lehman, after both won semifinal games by double figures. The teams split two regular meetings.

The Team of the Week, D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, was also released Wednesday afternoon.
