Dave Paulsen won 170 games at Williams and has 262 wins overall.
Bucknell tabs a D-III coach again
Bucknell replaced one Division III national champion coach with another as the Bison announced Williams coach Dave Paulsen as their new men's basketball coach.

The Division I school, which saw Pat Flannery retire last month, hired Flannery from Lebanon Valley, where he won the 1994 Division III men's basketball national championship.

Paulsen directed the Ephs to back-to-back national championship games, including the 2003 national championship, and compiled a 170-55 record in Williamstown. He is the second Division III men's basketball coach to get a Division I head coaching job in the past week, following Lycoming's Don Friday, who was hired at St. Francis (Pa.).

Following the 2003-04 run, in which the Ephs went 61-3, Williams has gone 66-37 (.641).

"I am very excited about the opportunity to carry on the tradition of success that has been built at Bucknell through the years," said Paulsen in a Bucknell release. "Bucknell has distinguished itself among a very small group of (Division I) schools that have been able to win games in the NCAA Tournament and yet hold true to the ideal of the scholar-athlete."

Paulsen joins Catholic's Mike Lonergan (Vermont), UW-Plattevile's Bo Ryan (Wisconsin) and Rowan's John Giannini (La Salle) as former Division III national champion head coaches who are now head coaches at the Division I level.

NYU assistant gets top spot at Elmira
Elmira vice president of athletics and health services Patricia Thompson announced the appointment of Randie Torgalski as men’s basketball coach at Elmira. Torgalski will be just the seventh coach in the 38 year history of the program, having replaced former Chris Connolly, who left the program early this year after compiling a 15-85 record in four seasons at EC.

Torgalski has been an assistant coach at NYU since 2004. In that time he helped guide the team to an overall record of 72-34 while also making three appearances in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Metro Tournament. In just four seasons with the program, Torgalski has coached four 1,000 point scorers, 12 University Athletic Association All-Conference players, one UAA Player of the Year and one D3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year.

Before his stint at NYU, Torgalski was an assistant at Hamilton from 1999-2004 under 600-game winner Tom Murphy. While there, Torgalski served on a coaching staff that was named Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year three times.

Torgalski played under coach Mike Neer at Rochester for four years, where in his final season he was named team captain and garnered All-League honors. Still second on the school's all-time assists list with 519 assists, Torgalski played on two NCAA Tournament teams and one ECAC Tournament team.

“Coach Torgalski brings a new drive and energy to the Elmira College men’s basketball program. His experience with three highly respected and successful programs in Division III can only enhance the development of our program that truly has a lot of potential,” said Thompson.

Following his graduation from Rochester in 1999 where he received a B.A. in psychology, Torgalski earned a master's at Virginia Commonwealth in sports leadership and management.
