Ben Strong and Guilford had an epic run to the Elite Eight in 2007. Will the Quakers go further in 2008?
Who'd we pick?
We tip off with five men's games in the first round of the NCAA Tournament tonight, and it's time to give our take, finally, on the Field of 59.

Who will win it all? Who will pull off an upset? It's our annual picks, surprises and disappointments for the 2008 men's basketball tournament. Plus, where does your favorite team rank? Division III power ratings expert Patrick Abegg breaks down each of the 59 teams, including their overall ranking, wins vs. the Top 50 and Top 100 and chances of winning their regional.

Around the Nation

For Clarkson, it's a matter of being in the tournament at all at 11-16. For Wheaton (Ill.) it's getting a reprieve in terms of an at-large bid. For Denison, it's getting another chance to be in the postseason after graduating five seniors. And for Colleen and Caitlin Feeney, it's having a chance to play together after Colleen transferred to join her sister at Bridgewater State.

As the NCAA Tournament first round starts today and tomorrow we have some teams that are glad to be playing at all. Read about them and more in this week's Around the Nation.

You now know who we picked, and you know who you picked. But who did the collective fan base pick to win the Division III NCAA Tournament? What is the shortest trip in the first round? What's the oddest thing about the women's bracket biggest Cinderella and why is it important to stick it out on the roster for all four years? Questions answered in Around the Nation.

Don't forget to join the Pick'em contest, with the men's deadline tonight at 6:55 p.m. ET. Men's bracket and women's bracket.

Trinity's student section didn't have much effect on Coast Guard's Craig Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final minute of the Bears' win.
John Jay, CGA get W's away
John Jay's Cinderella season keeps on going for another couple of nights, while Coast Guard continued its road run as well.

The Bloodhounds, one of two teams below .500 to make the Division III men's basketball NCAA Tournament, won 80-74 at Moravian, commonly considered the last Pool B team into the field at 18-8 on Selection Sunday. Coast Guard, the champions of the NEWMAC, opened up a 13-point lead in the second half at Trinity (Conn.) before holding on down the stretch to beat the Bantams 80-75. Thursday's scoreboard

Coast Guard advances to play at Mass-Dartmouth on Saturday, while John Jay will travel to Amherst. The Bloodhounds went on a 13-0 run midway through the second half to turn a six-point deficit into a seven-point lead. Alex Valerio led John Jay with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting, while Godfrey Mascall went 4-for-7 en route to 12 points.

Occidental avoided the favorites' fate, blocking a Pomona-Pitzer shot with under four seconds left to win 52-51. Conor Whitman scored the game-winner for the No. 25 Tigers with 12 seconds remaining and finished with 15 points. Audio highlight: Craig Dunkin on the call for Oxybroadcast.com.

Nate Stahl scored 25 points, 15 of them in the first half as Capital pulled away after an early deficit to beat Bethany 92-70. Clarkson was never in the game in falling 96-66 at King's. Capital has Hope in the second round, while King's, which started on a 25-8 run, follows Clarkson back up to upstate New York to play Plattsburgh State.
