| | Wash U. goes down twice at Rochester
Seth Hauben's 20-20 performance helped hand Wash U its first loss. |
Jeff Joss blocked Matt Tabash's last-second shot, helping No. 8 Rochester upset No. 1 Washington U. 83-82 in overtime Sunday, then the women followed suit, as No. 23 Rochester defeated No. 1 Washington U. 82-73. The Rochester women broke a 22-game losing streak to Wash U, winning their first game since the 1991-92 season.
The Rochester men held Tabash to just 14 points. "We don't have the footspeed to handle him one on one. We thought if we went zone we could cut down the number of touches he had," head coach Mike Neer told WYSL radio. Full story.
Seth Hauben, left, scored 25 points and added a career-high 20 rebounds for Rochester, which improved to 21-3, 11-2 in the University Athletic Association. Washington U. lost for the first time in 24 games. There are no unbeaten men's teams remaining in Division III.
"It's especially sweet since they got us by three up there in overtime," said Hauben. "It's a war. We just ended up on top." |
