Amherst's Olson reaches rare territory Andrew Olson became just the eighth player in Division III men's basketball history to record 700 career assists when he fed three Amherst baskets in a 69-58 NESCAC win Saturday afternoon against Trinity (Conn.). With 16 minutes to play in the second half, Olson made a no-look behind-the-back bounce pass to fellow senior Kevin Hopkins, who went in untouched for a two-handed dunk to give Amherst a 38-33 lead. Olson is followed close behind by DeSales point guard Eddie Ohlson, who had 672 career assists entering the week. Olson has a shot at catching Christopher Newport's Andre Bolton (1993-96) at 737 assists for seventh place all-time, as well as D3hoops.com All-American Mike McGarvey, who had 754 for Ursinus from 2003-06. The record is held by Ramapo's Tennyson Whitted, who was credited with 917 assists in 108 games from 2000-03. | ||

CUNYAC top team moves on York (N.Y.), the only CUNYAC team in the men's regional rankings, advanced to the league's championship game, overcoming a 40-point performance from Hunter's Marlon Smith in winning 89-77. Randolph coach Clay Nunley took his first-year team up to his alma mater and downed Goucher 74-65. The Wildcats, in their first year of men's basketball, finish the season 8-14. Tuesday night's men's scores No. 5 Messiah went on a 14-0 run down the stretch to put away Lebanon Valley on the road 74-57. Messiah improved to 22-2, 9-0 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Lebanon Valley fell to 5-4 in the league, 20-4 overall. Lebanon Valley will be the third seed in the conference tournament and will travel to Albright, which beat Widener 76-50. Tuesday night's women's scores Coast Guard's men one-upped their women, blowing their game with Mitchell wide open with a 32-0 run in a 113-61 win. DeSales failed to lock up the MAC Freedom top seed, losing 66-62 at Arcadia in overtime. It's the Bulldogs' third loss in five games after a 17-2 start. | ||
