Wildcats scratch Loggers Linfield senior Steve Taylor hit a key three-pointer and the Wildcats erased a 14-point halftime deficit to upset No. 13 Puget Sound 93-82 Friday night.
The win was the first for Linfield (12-8, 7-4) over UPS (6-4, 9-3) in nine games, dating to the 2002-03 season. The Loggers shot 7-for- from three-point range in the first half, but just 1-for-8 in the second.
Five days after a 31-point road loss at Carnegie Mellon, Wash U turned the tables on the Tartans and beat them 79-68 behind a 25-point performance off the bench from guard Danny O'Boyle. The St. John Fisher women shot an NCAA-record 81 percent from the floor in the first half, going 17-for-21 in trailing 48-42 at Ithaca. But the Cardinals went stone cold in the second half, making just five of 30 baskets, and lost 85-65. They shared the previous record with Cal State-Stanislaus, 80%, set in 1988. Chicago ended Rochester's 15-game winning streak as Alex Leach scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half of a 56-46 win against the No. 7 Yellowjackets. NYU lost for the fifth consecutive game, falling at home to Case Western Reserve 73-63. The Spartans (11-8, 4-4) got 19 points from Ashleigh Tondo and outrebounded the Violets (13-6, 2-6) 36-25.
No. 3 Rochester avenged its Sunday afternoon loss as well, as Uche Ndubizu hit a layup with four seconds left to lift the Yellowjackets past Chicago 64-63 on the road. Fletcher Walters scored 23 points and added nine rebounds and No. 1 Amherst started the second half on a 16-3 run in pulling away from Connecticut College, 80-60. Joe Coppens scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half as No. 10 Brandeis rallied from a 13-point second half deficit to beat Emory, 90-85. Mike Daley won his 300th career game as Nazareth improved to 15-5 by beating Hartwick 73-61. He has a 300-267 record in 22 seasons.
Virginia Wesleyan handed No. 24 Randolph-Macon its second loss in three games behind a double-double from Heather Phillips in a 63-45 win. The Marlins swept the season series. William Smith improved to 17-1 and Brockport State to 18-3 in women's action by rolling outmatched Vassar and Morrisville State, respectively. Brandeis led Emory 42-22 in the first half but the Eagles came back to win 75-63. Emory had 23 assists on its 27 baskets, on the road, and was led by 14 points from Lora Turner and 13 from Kate Corkle and LeShonda Lillard. |

Road Warriors The Southern Maine women lost a home game for the first time in more than four years, as Eastern Connecticut ended the No. 11 Huskies' streak 66-65 in overtime.
Ashley McFetridge scored 22 points and added 13 rebounds in the Warriors' win. The Huskies hadn't lost a game in Gorham since Dec. 2, 2003 to Bowdoin, a streak of 78 consecutive wins. Southern Maine hadn't lost a conference game at home since losing to Western Connecticut in 2000.

Not all runs came to an end. Maryville (Mo.) won its 72nd consecutive conference game, matching the Division III record set by Emmanuel, in defeating Greenville in SLIAC play. No. 1 Hope defeated archrival Calvin 66-58 in women's action to stay unbeaten. No. 2 Howard Payne held off Hardin-Simmons 72-60, completing an impressive home-and-away sweep of the Cowgirls and No. 9 McMurry over two weeks. No. 5 Thomas More stayed perfect by thumping Grove City, 82-40. No. 11 Medaille's 19-game winning streak came to an end, however, 77-72 at Pitt-Greensburg.
Melissa Beyruti scored 20 points and Chari' Cooper raised her career total to 1,388 rebounds in No. 6 Kean's 81-49 win against Rutgers-Newark. Kean wore pink uniforms in support of the WBCA's Think Pink initiative. More Think Pink coverage. Williams won for the sixth time in seven games and knocked off No. 14 Tufts in the process, 63-46. The loss put Bowdoin (17-5, 6-1) in first in the NESCAC by itself with a win against Colby. And third-ranked UW-Whitewater put five players in double figures in beating UW-Stout 83-72.
Baruch's 38-game CUNYAC winning streak came to an end as Kimberly Kelly scored 23 points and added 11 rebounds for Lehman in a 60-58 win. St. Benedict beat Augsburg 79-59 and took over first place in the MIAC by itself when third-place Gustavus Adolphus beat former co-leader St. Thomas 55-52. Team of the Week honoree Chelsie Schweers followed up her nod with 10-for-12 shooting from three-point range en route to 32 points in Christoper Newport's 85-58 win at Peace. |

2,000-point club gets one man stronger Ben Strong joined the 2,000-point club Saturday afternoon with a 30-point performance in Guilford's 103-53 win against Lynchburg.
Strong, the reigning D3hoops.com Player of the Year, had 16 first-half points and hit the milestone with the first of two free throws with 9:01 remaining in the game. He hit the second and did not return. Strong is Guilford's first 2,000-point scorer since moving to Division III and is five points behind NBA star World B. Free on the school's career list.

Run stopper No. 2 Mass-Dartmouth's undefeated run ended in New Hampshire in front of a capacity crowd at Spaulding Gym. Keene State scored on its last possession in regulation to force overtime where the Owls beat the Corsairs 92-85, knocking off Division III men's basketball's last unbeaten team.
Mass-Dartmouth led by two with 15.5 seconds remaining in regulation but Tavon Brantley hit a short shot to tie the game. In overtime A.J. Tavares hit a three-pointer to tie the game but Tyler Kathan answered to put the Owls ahead for good. Kathan finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
"I though Tavon Brantley was a difference-maker with the limited minutes he got," Keene coach Rob Colbert said, "and Kathan then hit the big shots that gave us a little separation. No. 7 Augustana sent Carthage to its fourth consecutive loss, getting 24 points from Brian Larson and a double-double from Chandlor Collins in a 76-69 win. The Vikings remained one game ahead of surprising Illinois Wesleyan in the CCIW, as the Titans got 20 points from Darius Gant in beating Elmhurst 75-71. No. 12 Mary Hardin-Baylor needed a basket with 2.6 seconds left to beat 1-19 Texas Lutheran.
The day started with Richard Stockton ending William Paterson's undefeated run through the NJAC, 78-75. Mario Lancioni scored 24 points and young brother Santini added 11 for Richard Stockton but the Ospreys needed a Jerome Hubbard jumper and block (audio highlight, Gordon Mann for D3hoopsNet) to escape with the victory. William Paterson, who slipped to 8-1 in the NJAC, trailed by 25 points in the first half but came back to take a four-point lead late.
No. 21 Ursinus survived a buzzer-beater attempt by T.J. Odunlami to beat McDaniel 68-66. Clark was not so lucky as Jamaal Gibbs hit a half-court buzzer beater to send Springfield past the Cougars, 90-87 in OT. It was one of three buzzer-beaters in the game.

Moravian, Kean don pink unis Kean wore pink uniforms in support of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Think Pink campaign, and with fan support, helped to increase this year’s total money raised to $4,900. The money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
The WBCA's Think Pink program is being supported by more than 900 basketball programs this season, including many in Division III.
Below, Moravian wore pink uniforms and Merchant Marine pink warm-ups in support of the program, raising more than $3100 in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. They posed with a youth team from the Lehigh Valley area.
