John Dekker and the rest of the Lawrence Vikings have done just fine with former assistant coach Joel DePagter in charge.
New hands, usual place
When Lawrence coach John Tharp went to Division II Hillsdale last April, the Vikings knew the program was left in familiar hands. Joel “JoJo” DePagter played at Lawrence and worked as an assistant under Tharp before taking over as head coach.

In just his first year, DePagter has the Vikings atop the Midwest Conference at 8-0, 13-1 overall. He spoke with D3hoops.com's Gordon Mann about that start, including the recent wins over No. 20 UW-Oshkosh and Grinnell. What is his approach to short-circuiting “the system” and how do we solve the scoring triangle between Lawrence, UW-Oshkosh and No. 7 UW-Stevens Point?

No. 5 Mass-Dartmouth is the last undefeated team standing, a position Lawrence held in 2006. The Vikings' run ended in the Sweet 16 against Illinois Wesleyan. Is it better for a team to take a loss before the NCAA Tournament or is there no such thing as a good loss? You might be surprised at DePagter's thoughts.

That and more in our podcast.

Harlee Wood helped make sure Hamilton remained unbeaten at home.
Hamilton slows Williams down
Hamilton scored just eight points over the final nine minutes but it was enough to knock off No. 13 Williams 60-56. The Ephs, who lost for the second consecutive game, scored just seven over the same stretch.

Harlee Wood led all players with 16 points and added eight rebounds for Hamilton, which improved to 11-4.

Stevens ducked an upset attempt on Sunday afternoon but couldn't bounce back on Tuesday night as the No. 17 Ducks were sent back under the Hudson River with a 75-71 loss in overtime.

The battle of brothers Waleed Farid (Stevens) and Tammer Farid (Baruch) came down to the free throw line, where Tammer, a freshman, went 7-for-8 in the extra period to finish the night with 14 points. Tammer went 0-for-8 from the floor. Waleed had 13 points, seven assists and six steals. Tuesday's men's scores.

Anthony Williams scored a game-high 27 points to lead No. 16 Plattsburgh State to an 87-70 win at Potsdam State.

In women's action, Chapman improved to 16-3 with a 63-49 win at Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers appear in the driver's seat for one of the three Pool B bids for the women's NCAA Tournament this season. Carthage won its 10th consecutive game, beating Millikin 53-44 behind Katie Jarger's 14 points. Tuesday's women's scores.

The top-ranked Bears of Washington University are off until Friday night's game at Rochester, but if you haven't seen it, check out Bears guard Sean Wallis' latest Insider blog in the Daily Dose.
