Christopher Newport sweeps, men 21-1 The No. 6 Christopher Newport men ran their winning streak to 21 and clinched the Dixie Conference regular season championship with an 86-78 win, while the women won their seventh consecutive game to solidify their hold on first place in the Dixie. In the men's game the Captains (21-1, 10-0) led by as many as 16 in the second half.
Senior Sean Phillips had the game of his career with a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Steve Butler added 16 points and a CNU career-high 22 rebounds. Averett (8-13, 5-5) was led by Demarcus Morrison with 21 points.
The CNU women also coasted to an 83-63 win. Freshman Serita Jackson had a career-high 27 points to pace CNU, which improved to 18-3 and 9-1. Junior Tamara Pool added 20 points. Averett (8-12, 4-6) got 20 points from Shannon Yopp. |
