Down by nine early in the first half, MC used a 25-13 run to regain the lead 43-40 at the 3:37 mark following a key Andrew Shumate basket. The Eagles bounced back with a 6-1 run to close the half establishing a 54-50 lead.
The Eagles came out on fire from the perimeter to start the second half. A collection of treys put Carson Newman up by a dozen. Seven minutes later, MC would finish a 23-9 run of their own to tie the game 75-75. Back-to-back three pointers by Shumate and Wes Lambert and key made free-throws kept MC ahead until the final buzzer.
Maryville was paced by Eryk Watson’s 24 points. Greg Hernandez was strong in the post with 20 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Shumate also collected eight boards on the evening. Jordan Damron and Wes Lambert finished with 15 and 13 respectively. Watson, Damron, Lambert, and Dustin Brown each hit a pair of three-pointers on the evening.
The Scots (4-2) will take the court next on December 13 in Holly Springs, Mississippi when they challenge Rust College, an NCAA Division III South Region opponent.
