Ed Montgomery hit a three pointer at the 2:36 mark that gave the Bobcats their first lead since the early minutes of the game, a lead they would not surrender over the final two and a half minutes. Montgomery led the Pitt-Greensburg with 16 points, the only Bobcat player to score in double digits. Kevin Buczynski paced the way for Penn State Behrend with 13 to account for the only other player to score in double digits in the defensive struggle.
Penn State Behrend seemed in control of the contest as the Lions opened up a nine point lead with just under nine minutes to go as neither team was an offensive force. Tim Gustin netted all six of his points in the Pitt-Greensburg comeback as the Bobcats began to erase the nine-point deficit. It was then that Montgomery hit back to back to threes to turn a four-point hole into a two point lead, a lead they would not give up.
Pitt-Greensburg shot 37% on the game, while Penn State hit on just 34% of their shots. The game appeared to be won at the free throw line, although Pitt-Greensburg hit just 61% (8-13) Penn State struggled hitting just seven of their 16 attempts for 43.8%. The contest featured seven lead changes and four ties.
Pitt-Greensburg senior guard David Winfrey dished out three assists, and became the school's career leader in the category. Winfrey's total is not 290, and passes the former record of 289, held by Kevin Conlon (2001-2005).
The Bobcats will now face Albright College in the championship game. It was take place tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM, and will be hosted by Keystone College.
