Eureka (4-15) led for the better part of the first half and took its largest lead at 20-12 with 8:37 left in the half. However, EC would not score for the next four minutes and went to the halftime break down 31-28.
Starting his first game in over two months, Eureka junior Mike Fredericks netted a pair of field goals to quickly give Eureka the lead back early in the second half. The lead changed hands several times before Webster (7-11) took charge with a 11-2 run for a 52-43 lead with nine minutes remaining.
Richard brought the Red Devils within 60-56 with over three minutes to go and Mike Trotter lifted a steal and connected on a pair of foul shots to make the score 60-58.
Both sides had exchanged two more free throws when Luke Sottos added to his team-leading steals total and Andrew Walton knotted the game for the eighth and final time at 62 with just 38 seconds on the clock.
Roberts, who was 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) at the line for the season, was then fouled and put the Gorloks in front 64-62 with two free throws. Tim Peffer misfired on a three-pointer and Walton could not convert a put back attempt in the final seconds.
Richard tallied 20 points to lead all scorers. Peffer chipped in 17, with 13 coming in the first half. Walton was next with nine. Freshman guard Brady Wildenradt had a game-high seven boards as Eureka had a slim 29-27 edge in rebounding
Darrin Hoggatt led Webster with 16, 13 less than the 29 he scored in Webster's 83-76 loss at Eureka on Nov. 30. Roberts finished with six points.
Eureka hosts former conference foe Dominican University on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. for the final non-conference tilt of the season.
