Senior guard Clyde Forteau (St. Raymond’s / Bronx, NY) hit a free throw with 10:23 remaining in the second half of the game between NYC College of Technology and St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) to score the 1,000th point of his four-year career, but it was not enough to spur the Yellow Jackets on to victory. The home squad fell behind SJC by as many as 17 points (52-35) in the second half before making a furious comeback to within two points (63-61), before losing 65-61 in the non-conference tilt.
Forteau, who finished with only seven points, has exactly 1,000 for his career, became only the third man and fourth player in school history to reach the grand milestone, joining his two former teammates Nkosi Hamilton and Shacun Malave, who achieved it last season.
In the game itself, junior guard Kareem Hanley (Canarsie / Brooklyn, NY) led City Tech (6-13) with 18 points, followed by Otis Saylee (Seward Park / New York, NY) with a dozen points. Sophomore guard Omar Mahoney (Thomas Edison / Queens, NY) added 11 points, while freshman forward Issaka Yaya (Lehman / Bronx, NY) with career-high ten points. Saylee and Yaya each grabbed nine boards for the Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets will return to CUNYAC action with a road game on Wednesday night,February 1st, at York College in Jamaica, NY (8:00 pm).
