Arcadia 67, Gwynedd-Mercy 65

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA — In game that featured 17 lead changes and 13 ties, Arcadia survived a last-second shot to hang on and defeat Gwynedd-Mercy, 67-65, Monday evening in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference matchup at the Griffin Complex.

Junior Frank Barder hit a driving layup and was fouled to pull the Griffins within 67-65 with just six ticks on the clock. His miss and Arcadia rebound put the Knights on the line with a chance to ice the game but both tries were unsuccessful. Barder had a last look at a three-pointer from the top of the arc as the horn sounded but it fell short. GM's last four losses have been by a total of just 15 points.

Sophomore Kevin Lauer scored 11 points and grabbed six boards. Barder added 10 points while senior Francis Bowe chipped in nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Eric Elliott was one of five Knights in double figures, registering 14 points. Eugene Moore added 10 points, seven boards and a block.

After a back-and-forth first half, neither team led by more than five points. Bowe's three-point play gave the Griffins (7-12, 5-7 PAC) a 61-60 lead with 4:14 to play.

But three straight GM turnovers on ensuing possessions led to six Arcadia points and gave the Knights (9-9, 7-4 PAC) a five-point lead with 1:59 left. Lauer's putback cut the deficit to 66-63 with just over a minute in regulation. Moore hit one of two from the line with 12 seconds left for a four-point cushion.

The Griffins shot just 38% (23-of-60) from the floor including 3-for-18 from beyond the arc. GM did outrebound the Knights, 35-30. Arcadia was 26-of-53 (49%) and 9-of-22 (40%) from downtown.
