Carleton 76, Augsburg 49

Northfield, Minn. — Dan Forkrud scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his 14th career double-double as Carleton College shot 55 percent from the floor in beating Augsburg College, 76-49.

Zach Johnson added 17 point and Jake Phillips made 5-for-7 from three-point range for 15 points for Carleton (14-5, 11-3 MIAC), which won its 11th straight MIAC game and 10th straight overall.

The 10 straight wins matches the Carleton modern-day record for consecutive wins, set by the 1997-98 squad. Prior to that string, the longest winning streak was the 1936-37 squad that won 12 in a row after starting the season with losses to Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa. The 1932-33 and 1929-30 teams also won 12 straight, while the 1923-24 team was a perfect 14-0 on the season. The 1930-31 and 1931-32 squads won 11 consecutive games.

Justin Kozlowski paced Augsburg (3-16, 2-12 MIAC) with 12 points. The Auggies shot only 37 percent from the floor, including 4-for-19 from three-point range.

Carleton started slow, trailing 15-10 before embarking on a 24-6 run to eventually lead 36-24 at the break. The Knights pushed the lead to 15 out of the break on a Forkrud inside basket and Brian Sharkey 3-pointer. The lead eventually grew to 16 before the Auggies rallied, cutting it to six, 50-44, on the strength of a 16-6 spurt as the Knights went scoreless for four minutes.

The Knights responded by closing the game on a 26-5 run, holding the Auggies to two field goals over the final 12 minutes.

The Knights outrebounded the Auggies 32-22 and held a 14-6 edge in points off turnovers.

Carleton returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, playing a huge game at Gustavus at 7:30 p.m. The Gusties trail the Knights by two games in the MIAC standings after their loss at St. Thomas tonight. The Auggies host St. Thomas on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
