Richard Stockton 95, William Paterson 79

WAYNE, NJ — (Jan. 28, 2006) - Senior forward Tobias Smith (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) scored a game-high 26 points and junior guard Kevin Holmes (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) added 25 points and eight rebounds as Richard Stockton shot 62.1 percent from the floor en route to recording a 95-79 victory over William Paterson in New Jersey Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday at the Rec Center.

All five starters scored in double digits for the Ospreys (12-6, 7-5 NJAC), who converted 68.8 percent of their first-half shots (22-of-32) and went 36 for 58 in the game. Sophomore guard Mario Lancioni (Runnemede, NJ/Triton) dropped in 14 points, sophomore forward Jon Greene (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) had 12 and senior forward Miguel Rodriguez (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) added 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore guard Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) poured in 18 of his 24 points in the second half for the Pioneers (13-5, 8-4 NJAC). He went 9-of-13 from the field (4-of-6 from long range) and added five assists and four rebounds.

Richard Stockton took control midway through the first half, utilizing a 10-0 first-half run to take a 25-11 lead. The Ospreys boosted their lead to 50-36 at halftime as Smith had 13 points and Holmes dropped in 10 during the opening stanza. William Paterson never got closer than eight points in the second half and that was after junior forward Luis Martinez (Passaic, NJ/Clifton) canned a short jumper to make it 71-63 with 7:23 left.

Sophomore guard Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) had 13 points and five assists while senior forward Nick Torres (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) added 11 points for William Paterson. The Pioneers shot 48.3 percent from the field (31-of-64).

William Paterson returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 1, when it travels to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark for a 7:30 p.m. tilt. Stockton faces conference foe New Jersey City at home the same day at 8 p.m.
