The Colonials, 11-8 overall and 3-6 in the league, came all the way back from a 24-point deficit with 14:49 left in the second half. They trailed 60-36 after the Beacons' Rodney Bennett (Boston, MA) buried two free throws.
Over the next 5:19, Greg Cole (Terrytown, NY) and Dashon Jennings (Bridgeport, CT) combined for 15 points as WestConn outscored UMass Boston, 22-4. It trailed by six, 64-58 at that point.
Jennings, who finished with a career-high 18 points, drilled a three pointer with six seconds remaining to complete the comeback and send the game into the extra frame.
In the overtime, the Beacons, 12-6 overall and 7-2 atop the LEC, scored nine of the period's first 10 points to take an 88-80 advantage. Bennett capped off the offensive explosion with a follow-up lay in.
Jason Barnett (Windsor, CT) brought the Colonials back to within two points, 89-87 with a follow up jumper with 29 ticks left in the game.
A free throw by A. J. Titus (Roxbury, MA) eight seconds later gave UMass Boston a lead, 90-87 that would not be challenged.
UMass Boston was led by Tony Barrow (Dorchester, MA) who had a game-high 29 points. Amigo Paniagua (Santiago, DR) added 22 points for the winners.
Cole finished with a game-high 29 points for WestConn.
The WestConn men host Tufts University in non-league action this Tuesday, January 31. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
