Ramapo 121, Rutgers-Camden 79

MAHWAH, NJ —
RAMAPO CRUISES BY SCARLET RAPTORS, 121-79

MAHWAH, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners played host to the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers University, Camden, in a battle of New Jersey Athletic Conference rivals. Ramapo entered the game boasting a five game winning streak and sitting in second place in the conference, while the Scarlet Raptors came in struggling at 1-16 overall, and a winless 0-11 in conference play.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first minute of play, the Roadrunners gained a 4-2 edge at the 18:08 mark and never looked back. A John Wojcik (Sayerville, NJ) three pointer pushed the lead out to 11, 15-4, before Drew Bernier (Medford, NJ) buried a jumper, cutting the lead down to nine. That would mark the last time the Scarlet Raptors would trail by single digits, as Ramapo extended the gap all the way to 31, 65-34, before Michael Clay (Willingsboro, NJ) knocked down a shot as the first half clock expired. Bernier had 14 first half points, while Clay added 10 and four rebounds. Eleven Roadrunners scored in the first half, led by Wojcik’s 12, and Timothy Wesley’s (Jersey City, NJ) 10. Ramapo forced the Scarlet Raptors into 21 first half turnovers, while shooting a smoldering 60% from the floor, including 7-13 from behind the arc.

The second half was more of the same, as Ramapo extended their lead 40, 80-40, following a Mike Malko (Hillsborough, NJ) jumper. The closest the Scarlet Raptors would come again was 36. Fourteen of Fifteen Roadrunners tallied points in the drubbing, led by Wesley’s 14. Jamal Jenkins (New Brunswick, NJ) and Malko each posted 10 points of their own. Antoine Miller (Camden, NJ) led four Scarlet Raptors in double figures with 25. Bernier had 17, while Amir Fantroyal (Sicklerville, NJ) and Clay added 16 a piece.

The Roadrunners are back in action on the first day of February, hosting on the Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 7:30 at The Bradley Center.
