Maryville (Mo.) 99, Principia 51

St. Louis, Mo. — The Maryville University men's basketball team improved to 6-1 in the SLIAC today with an overwhelming victory over Principia College. The Saints defeated the Panthers 99-51.

The Saints’ offense shot .565 from the field and out-rebounded the Panthers 57-29. All 13 Maryville players who saw minutes in today’s game put points on the board.

Ben Hebl led Maryville with 17 points and made 4-of-7 from the three-point arc in only 15 minutes of floor time while fellow starter Stephen Bash finished the day 5-for-7 from the field and added two free throws for 12 points.

However, Maryville’s crew of reserves did most of the damage against the Panthers in today’s victory. Aaron Steinke finished with 13 points (5-of-8), a season high thus far for the freshman forward. Steinke also added a game-high nine rebounds. Teddy McGrath and Matt McCarthy both came off the bench to add 10 points a piece with McCarthy sinking a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Also coming in for the Saints was Casey Holland who contributed seven boards, five assists, and two points in the Saints’ win. Michael Bollinger returned from illness to go 4-for-4 from the field for eight points while pulling down six rebounds.

Principia’s Louis Clough and Chris Watts led their team in scoring with 16 and 12 points respectively. Clough also added 3 rebounds, three assists, and three steals while Watts pulled down a team-high eight boards and dished out two assists.

This Wednesday Maryville will hit the road to take on rivals Webster University. Webster trails the Saints in the SLIAC, falling in third place. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
