The Polar Bears were led by junior Ryan Lee who tied his career-high with 20 points by hitting 10-of-11 field goals. Lee also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead ONU.
Junior Greg Badenhop added 17 points for Northern. He now needs just four points to become the 33rd member of Ohio Northern’s 1,000 point club.
Junior Bart Hostetler chipped in 14 points for ONU, and senior Nate Lieb and sophomore Kyle Gehle each added 10 points apiece for Nothern.
The Bears gained their largest lead in the game in the second half off a jumper by freshman Jake Cannan to push the score to 71-41 with 12:13 left in the game.
Northern led by as many as 21 in the first half. Badenhop nailed a three-pointer with 6:05 left until intermission to give the Bears a 36-15 lead.
“We earned ourselves a real nice road victory today,” said ONU head coach Jeff Coleman. “We did a good job passing the ball around on the offensive side, and for the most part, we played well defensively.
With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 9-3 in OAC action and 14-4 overall, while the Student Princes fall to 7-12 overall and 3-9 in OAC play.
Heidelberg was led by Ron Higgins who notched 16 points and pulled six rebounds. Greg Tyson also added 12 points for the Student Princes.
Ohio Northern hit 35-of-62 field goals for 56.5 percent in the game, while Heidleberg connected on 25-of-57 shots for 43.9 percent.
ONU grabbed 34 rebounds compared to 32 for Heidelberg.
The Bears will return home to face Muskingum on Wednesday for a 7:30 tip-off at the ONU Sports Center.
