Gallaudet 78, Goucher 66

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher suffered its first loss to Gallaudet in the Sports & Recreation Center since the facility opened in 1991 when the Bison jumped out to an 11-0 lead tonight on the way to a 78-66 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Gophers.

The Gophers had been 18-0 all-time against the Bison in the SRC and, despite tonight's loss, still lead the all-time series between the two schools, 29-7.

During the first 7:20 of the contest, the Gophers (1-16, 1-7 CAC) were 0-for-8 from the field and were guilty of seven turnovers. Their first point was a free throw by Justin Ajose with 13:21 remaining in the first half. On their very next possession, Jonathan Garritt landed a shot from three-point range.

Although the Gophers never caught the Bison (10-8, 4-4 CAC) after falling behind by as many as 13 points in the first half, they were down by only a point (27-26) at the break.

Gallaudet stretched its lead to 36-30 during the first six minutes of the second half before Luther Weedon nailed three-point baskets on back-to-back possessions to put the Bison ahead 42-30. But even after the visitors opened up a 21-point advantage with less than six minutes remaining, the Gophers went on a 16-3 run to get as close as 71-63 with 1:01 showing on the clock.

Garritt led all scorers as he produced 27 points, including 11 during the final 5:01 of the contest. James Russo who played all 40 minutes for the Gophers, finished with 25 points.

Robert Haney Jr. turned in a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead Gallaudet in both categories.
