Maine Maritime 79, Elms 54

CHICOPEE, MA — Elms College sophomore guard Raemarie Josefiak (Springfield, MA) netted a team-high 17 points, but Maine Maritime junior forward Michelle Gott (Tremont, ME) dropped in a game-high 26 points to help the visiting Mariners pull away to a 79-54 win over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Elms College lost for the fourth time in its last five games to fall to 7-8 overall, 6-3 NAC. Maine Maritime, meanwhile, won for the sixth time in its last seven games to improve to 13-3 overall, 8-1 NAC.

Gott went 9 of 18 from the field, including a sizzling 7 of 10 shooting from 3-point range in the victory.

Maine Maritime took advantage of its height advantage down low (four players taller than 6-0) to post decisive advantages in both rebounds (52-33) and points in the paint (24-8).

Freshman forward Shauna Sullivan (Chicopee, MA) netted 13 points and sophomore point guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) added 11 points to also reach double figures for the Blazers in the loss.

Junior guard Alyssa Burns (Dixfield, ME) scored 15 points and junior forward Julia Knights (Brookton, ME) added 10 for Maine Maritime.

Elms College returns to conference play on Sunday, January 29 when it hosts Husson College. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
