Transylvania 85, Anderson 68

ANDERSON, Ind. — Transylvania shot 73 percent from the field in the first half Saturday en route to a 50-35 lead and went on to cruise past Anderson 85-68 in men's Heartland Conference action at the O.C. Lewis Gym.

No. 20 Transy (16-3, 7-1 HCAC) has won five straight games and eight of its last nine. Anderson is 7-12, 2-6 HCAC after losing for the third straight contest.

Bryan Howard and Joey Verax combined for 25 points in the first period as Transy zoomed to an early lead, hitting 19 of 26 from the field and seven of 11 from three-point range. Howard was three of three, Verax was perfect in five shots, and Stephen Gabbard was three of three for seven first-half points.

Howard led the Pioneers with 21 points, finishing seven of nine from the field. Verax and Matt Finke each had 12 points. Howard also had seven rebounds and six assists.

Terry Coleman had 15 points to lead the Ravens and J.D. Clampitt added 11. The Ravens shot 42 percent for the game (23 of 55), but were just three of 16 from long-range as Transy had a 30-9 edge from behind the arc.

Transy will host Mt. St. Joseph in its next outing on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Lions are the only league team with a win over the Pioneers so far this season.
