Hamilton 70, Clarkson 57

CLINTON, N.Y. — Hamilton College scored the game's first ten points and never trailed en route to a 70-57 Liberty League win against visiting Clarkson University at Scott Field House on Jan. 27.

Phil Valenti '06 scored 11 of his game-high 14 points in the first half for Hamilton (5-1 league, 13-3 overall). Nick Jones '07 dropped in 13 points. Tim Welchons '06 handed out a game-high five assists. Staunton Peck '06 grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Peck has 22 boards in the last two games.

John Chiero '08 paced the Clarkson offense with 12 points off the bench. Fellow reserve Erick Vigansky '07 dropped in 11.

The Continentals made 7 of 17 three-point field goal attempts in the first half as they built a 39-25 lead at the break. The Golden Knights (1-5, 4-13) clawed back to within seven points (64-57) with less than two minutes left, but didn't get any closer.

Hamilton shot 43.1 percent (25-58) from the field for the game. Clarkson made 50 percent (22-44) of its field goal attempts, but took 14 fewer shots. The Continentals pulled down 37 rebounds, including 15 on the offensive end. The Golden Knights finished with just 26 boards. The teams combined to commit 53 turnovers.

Hamilton is in second place in the league standings while Clarkson is tied for seventh. The Continentals hold a commanding 61-13 lead in the all-time series.
