More importantly, Carroll’s win improves them to 8-1 in league play, one game behind first-place Lawrence University at 9-0. The Vikings have their work cut out for them as they must play at Grinnell on Saturday after narrowly defeating Monmouth College Friday night.
Junior Buck Colomy paced Carroll with a career-high 30 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field. Six other Pioneers reached double-figures in scoring, including 23 points each for junior Nathan Drury and freshman Trevor Stratton Junior Paul Toshner and senior Jason Scheper chipped in with 19 and 16 points, respectively, while senior James Johnson and junior Adam Ligocki added 12 points each.
Carroll jumped out to a 76-71 halftime lead after shooting 79.5% in the first half. Grinnell hit a respectable 21 three-pointers in the game but Carroll’s efficient performance on the offensive end of the floor proved too much. The Pioneers shot 70.4% from the field for the game.
Grinnell also had seven players reach double-figures in scoring, led by John Grotberg’s game-high 31 points.
Carroll will attempt to make it two for two this weekend when they travel to Illinois College on Saturday. The Pioneers routed the Blue Boys 94-62 in Waukesha, Wis. on Jan. 13. Carroll is currently ranked #25 in the nation by D3hoops.com.
