Hardin-Simmons 50, Schreiner 48

KERRVILLE, Texas — Matt Brackett hit two free throws with 20 seconds to play to give Hardin-Simmons a 50-48 win over Schreiner, Thursday night in American Southwest Conference men’s basketball action in Kerrville.

Brackett had nine points in the second half and Tanner Kudrna scored nine in the second frame as the Cowboys rallied from a horrendous first half that saw them trail 22-16 on 24 percent shooting.

The Cowboys clamped down on defense in the second half to pull out the win, holding the Mountaineers to 22 percent shooting. Schreiner had a chance to tied the game, but the first free throw by Brandon Burke missed, giving HSU the win.

Zach Pickelman, Mardochee Jean and Tanner Kudrna each had 10 points for the Cowboys. Kevin Deans led Schreiner with 16 points.

HSU is now 9-8 on the year and 806 in league play. Schreiner is 3-13 overall and 3-11 in ASC play. HSU travels to Seguin to play Texas Lutheran on Saturday at 3 p.m.
