Wheaton (Ill.) 82, Millikin 60

Wheaton, Ill. — The Wheaton men’s basketball team earned an 82-60 victory against visiting conference foe Millikin on Wednesday night in King Arena. Wheaton never trailed in tonight’s game and the hosts jumped out to a 24-4 lead with 10:55 remaining in the first half. The Thunder held a 37-25 lead at halftime. In the second half, the closest Millikin came was a 12-point Wheaton advantage and the Thunder led by as much as 29 points. Millikin is now 9-9 on the season, with a 2-5 mark in CCIW play. Wheaton improves to 6-10 on the season and 2-3 in the CCIW.

Senior Jordan Kemper and sophomore John Mohan each scored 19 points to lead the Thunder tonight. Kemper added a game-high 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards and he added four assists. Mohan shot 5-for-9 from three-point range, with four assists and four steals. Senior Tony Bollier scored 17 points with six assists. Junior forward Michael Fiddler scored 14 points, with six assists and two blocked shots. Freshman Andy Wiele scored seven points, with six rebounds.

Freshman guard Drew Gensler scored 24 points, with three assists and one steal to lead Millikin. Ray Kissing came off of the Big Blue bench to add 11 points. Korte Long scored eight points, with four rebounds.

Wheaton shot 42.4% (28-66) from the field, with 44.4% (8-18) from three-point range and 90% (18-20) at the free throw line. Millikin had a 43.4% (23-53) field goal percentage, with 20% (3-15) from behind the three-point arc and 91.7% (11-12) at the free throw line. The Thunder out-rebounded the Big Blue 37-33, with an 18-12 edge on the offensive glass that helped give Wheaton a 26-9 advantage in second-chance points.
