Waynesburg 117, Westminster (Pa.) 87

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Waynesburg featured six players in double figures, led by 23 from Beau Wilson, as it cruised to a 117-87 victory over Westminster on Wednesday night, the Yellow Jackets' fifth-straight win. Juniors Jeff Nero and Marc Lodovico each scored 18 points and Ryan Bujnowski added 15 for Waynesburg (11-6, 4-2), who scored 117 points for the fourth time in program history. The point total ranks as the sixth-highest in school history and is the most since a 117-point performance during the 1999-2000 season.

After a Lodovico bucket made the first-half score 24-24 with 11:26 remaining, the Yellow Jackets staked a 42-13 run to close out the half. Nero scored 13 of his 16 first-half points during the stretch, including a fast-break dunk, and was one of eight players to register points during the run.

In addition to his scoring, the athletic forward posted an impressive game-high nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks.

Sophomore reserve Jered Gamble netted seven points during the stretch before finishing with a season-high 14 points and five assists.

Waynesburg cruised to a 66-37 halftime lead after shooting 65.1 percent (46 of 74) from the floor and scoring 24 fast-break points. Westminster made 8-of-26 three-point attempts (30.8 percent) in the first-half, but committed 13 turnovers..

The Titans (5-13, 2-4) entered the contest ranked first in the conference in scoring (104.6 points/game) and three-pointers made/game (17.29). However, the Yellow Jackets held the Titans to their third-lowest point total of the season (87).

Waynesburg expanded its lead to 34 points, 73-39, just 2:01 into the second half when forward Ryan Bujnowski converted a pair of free throws. The senior finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Joining Bujnowski in the paint was sophomore Josh Parisi, who bucketed a season-high 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Westminster struggled to cut into the deficit in the second half, trimming it to just 25 points, 90-65, with 10:15. The Titans finished the game with a 28.6 three-point percentage (18 of 63).

The Yellow Jackets shot 62.2 percent (46 of 74) from the field - their second-highest output of the season - en route to scoring a season-high 117 points. The school record for points in a game was set during the 1998-99 season, a 128-58 victory over Practical Bible.

Waynesburg looks to continue its success on Saturday, Jan. 29, when it hosts conference rival Washington & Jefferson for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Presidents (7-12, 5-1) won the first meeting against the Yellow Jackets this season, 71-66, behind a double-double from freshman Josip Lucic-Jozak.
