The Bears had four players score in double digits. Sophomore Kyle Gehle led all scorers with 16 points. Junior Ryan Lee added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Junior Greg Badenhop inched closer to the 1,000-point club, as he dropped 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Badenshop now needs 21 points to become the 33rd membr of the elite club.
Senior Nate Lieb chipped in 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.
ONU had 13 different players score during the contest.
Ohio Northern swept the season series against the Cardinals. With the victory, the Bears improve to 13-4 overall, 8-3 in OAC play, while Otterbein falls to 4-7 in OAC play, 8-10 overall.
After a steal by freshman Kurtis Brown led to a Badenhop layup and the Bears were able to break a 14-14 tie, and go on a 13-0 run to push the lead to 27-14 with 7:56 left until intermission.
The Bears controlled the tempo for the rest of the first half, pushing the lead to 40-19 on a pair of Lieb’s free throws with 2:10 left in the half. ONU went into the locker room with a 44-26 lead.
Northern was able to pull away in second half, and they pushed the score to 67-39 on a layup by Lee with 8:46 left in the game.
“We played solid defense, espeically in the second half,” said ONU head coach Jeff Coleman. “We were able to get our guys some rest, which is key because we have a long strech of important games in the upcoming weeks.”
Ohio Nothern shot 55.9 percent in the game on 33-of-59 field goals. The Cardinals hit 22-of-58 shots for a 37.9 percent in the game.
Otterbein was led by Ross Banaszak who scored 15 points. Tyler Ousley recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, despite being in foul trouble.
The Polar Bears will return to the court Saturday, as they travel to Tiffin to face Heidelberg in a 3:00 tip-off.
