Franklin and Marshall 74, McDaniel 63

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Franklin & Marshall hit on 11 of 13 free throws down the final 1:40 to repel a late McDaniel comeback bid and pull out a 74-63 win at the Gill Center on Wednesday evening. The win marks the Diplomats 16th straight victory over the Terror.

Franklin & Marshall (9-9, 4-7) held a 62-52 advantage with 1:40 left to play following a pair of Adam Leonard free throws. The Terror (6-12, 4-7) responded quickly with a Devin Keeny (Dayton, Md / Glenelg) three-pointer to get within seven of the Diplomats. McDaniel sent Logan Outerbridge to the line where he sunk a pair on the next possession.

Those free throws were answered by another Keeny trey to make it 64-58 with 1:08 left in the game. Leonard was hit with a charge following the inbounds pass, the resulting Chris Prior (Westminster, MD / Westminster) lay-up got McDaniel within four points with 47 ticks left on the clock.

Leonard sunk another pair on the ensuing possession to make it 66-60 Franklin & Marshall. Four seconds later, Will Talesnick (Rockville, MD / Magruder) dropped in a lay-up and drew a foul from Leonard. Talesnick’s free throw was solid. The three-point play made it 66-63 with 39 seconds remaining.

That was as close as the Terror would get.

McDaniel sent Outerbridge back to the line immediately. He nailed the first of his pair, and the Dips dropped four more free throws in before the buzzer, while a late game steal gave Brandon Smith a pair of easy points adding up to the Diplomats’ 74-63 road win.

Leonard recorded a game-high 24 points shooting seven-of12 from the field and nailing eight of nine shots at the line. Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds from Franklin & Marshall, while Bryan Teschke recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds for the guests.

Franklin & Marshall out-rebounded McDaniel 24-13 in the second half, and outscored McDaniel by a two-to-one margin in the paint, 40-20.

The Terror got 15 points and eight rebounds from Josh McKay (Baltimore, MD / EVT). Talesnick offered McDaniel 14 points and six assists, while Keeny coughed up a career-high nine points.
