Maryville (Mo.) 84, MacMurray 57

ST.LOUIS, Mo. — The Maryville University men’s basketball team got back on track tonight in a conference win against MacMurray College. The Saints finished ahead of the Highlanders 84-57 to improve their overall record to 10-6 and 5-1 in the SLIAC.

In the first half, Maryville gained an early lead over the Highlanders. At 14:31 MacMurray’s Zack Kowa shot for two to cut the Saints lead by nine points. However, Maryville’s solid defense kept the Highlanders from scoring again until 7:50 left to play in the first half while the Saints offense gave them a 22 point lead. Maryville went in at half time up 47-25.

In the second half, Maryville’s defense remained just as strong and never let their lead drop less than 16 points. By the end of the game, Maryville would outshoot MacMurray 80-58 and grab nearly twice as many rebounds, pulling down 63 compared to MacMurray’s 39.

Maryville’s Matt Regan was back to his scoring ways as he was unstoppable hitting 11-of-17 shots from the field and giving him a game-high 25 points, 23 of which came in the first half. Regan also went on to record five assists and two steals.

Seniors Stephen Bash and Ben Hebl added 12 points a piece with Bash recording eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal and Hebl having three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Hebl tallied all of his points from behind the three-point arc sinking 4-of-10 (.400).

Senior point guard Tim Elwell ended the night with five rebounds and five assists. Helping on the boards was Ryan Klein and Aaron Steinke who pulled down eight and seven boards a piece while Klein also tallied three blocks.

This Saturday the Saints will take on Principia College at Moloney Arena inside the Simon Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
