Denison 72, Earlham 66

RICHMOND, Ind. — Dan Hodgkinson exploded for a season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds as the Big Red held off Earlham College on the road for a key 72-66 victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play from the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Hodgkinson was 8-of-11 from the field and was 11-of-13 from the charity strip leading Denison to their fifth consecutive victory and their seventh win out of their last eight games.

After beginning the year 2-8, Denison has battled their way back to .500 at 9-9 and will enter this weekend's match-up with #1 ranked Wittenberg as the hottest team in the NCAC.

Dan Izzo (St. Charles, Ill./East) and Jordan Krantz (Solon, Ohio/Solon) both added eight points apiece for Denison. As a team the Big Red hit 47 percent of their field goal tries and were 20-of-24 from the free throw line. Earlham was ice cold from beyond the arc, going 1-of-14 against the Denison zone. On the other hand, Denison was 6-of-12 from 3-point range. Shea McMahon (Circleville, Ohio/Circleville) and Brian Gognat (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) both nailed two treys apiece.

Behind Hodgkinson's 11 caroms and Izzo's eight, DU outrebounded Earlham 39-31. Four players scored in double-digits for the Quakers. They were led by LaRon Henry's 17 points and Brandon Miller's 16 points and 11 rebounds. Markous Jewett chipped in 15 markers.

Denison will host Wittenberg on Saturday at 3 p.m. in what is to be a highly anticipated match-up for both teams. Denison knocked off the Tigers last year in Granville with a thrilling 89-79 double-overtime win. Back on Dec. 3 Wittenberg handed the Big Red a little payback with a 70-52 defeat at the HPER Center.
