Centre 81, Thomas More 55

DANVILLE, Ky. — Balanced attack keys 81-55 Colonel win

Thirteen different players found the scoring column as the Centre College men's basketball team defeated Thomas More College 81-55 in a non-conference game, Tuesday, Jan. 24, in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels, which defeated Thomas More 68-51 back on January 8, improve to 11-5 overall, while the Saints fall to 1-17 on the year.

Centre jumped out to a 16-5 lead and would eventually push the lead to as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 37-25 lead into the break. Thomas More out-shot the Colonels making 12 of its 22 shots from the field (54.5%), compared to 44.4% (12-27) for Centre. The Saints, however, committed 13 turnovers to only seven for the Colonels.

The second half was all Centre as the Colonels pushed the lead to as many as 31 points late in the second half, before finishing with a 26 point victory. Centre shot 60.0% (18-30) in the second half and limited the Saints to only 32.3% (10-31) from the floor.

Eight players scored at least five points led by sophomore guard Matt Nestheide's 13 points on 4 of 6 shooting, including 3 of 4 from the three-point line. Junior Matt Jacobson also finished in double figures with 10 points along with five assists. Junior John Patterson added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds on the bench in the win.

The Saints' R.K. Thurman led all scorers with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting. Thurman also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and added two steals. Mark Lucas was the only other Saint to score in double figures, scoring 13 points and pulling down five rebounds off the bench.

Centre will return to conference play, Friday, Jan. 27, when they travel to Conway, Ark., to play Hendrix College. The game will be played as part of a men's/women's double header and will begin at 8:00 p.m. CST.
