CCNY came out fairly strong in the opening minutes taking a five-point lead (10-5) at the 15:40 mark on a Steven Souma three pointer, but the Beavers could not dam the Mariners from staying within striking distance in the opening period. USMMA took their first lead of the night on an Eric Hanson jumper during the course of an 8-0 run.
Consecutive three balls by Hanson and freshman Ray Heal minutes later gave Kings Point their largest lead of the night, 19-16 with 9:14 remaining in the half, but the Beavers would sink the Mariners from there.
CCNY (10-8) took a five point lead into the break (31-26) and made it a double-digit lead six minutes into the second half. The Beavers built a lead as large as 15 points with 8:19 remaining. Kings Point took a third out of the deficit, but could not break the 10-point margin of CCNY en route to falling, 78-69.
Leading the way for the Mariners in the loss was freshman Alex Loepker with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior center Zach Wyatte added 15 points and eight boards on the night. Hanson tallied seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
James Boddie paced the Beavers with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds, while Robert Barker and Andre Womack-Clake tallied 14 and 10 points, respectively.
USMMA (8-7, 3-2 Skyline) returns to conference action in the friendly confines of Liebertz Gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. versus Old Westbury.
