The Cazenovia women started things off with a 62-47 win. Pulling ahead 33-22 in the first stanza, the Wildcats squad never looked back from the opening tip, leading comfortably to the final horn. With the win, the Wildcats move to 5-11 on the season and 4-4 in NEAC play. Cazenovia, who has won five of its last six games, now find itself in the middle of NEAC post-season picture as a possible third seed in the current NEAC North Division standings.
Kate Lincoln (’08, Waterloo / Waterloo HS) led the way with a season-high and game-high 22 points, nine boards and a game-high five steals. Shooting 6-for-8 from three, Lincoln is now at 36 percent from behind the arc in 2005-2006.
Lincoln is the first Cazenovia player to lead the team in scoring in a win other than guard Ashley Lewis (’07, Whitesboro / Whitesboro HS) in 2005-2006. Lewis finished with 12 points, a game-high six assists and three steals in 38 minutes of action.
Bard was led by Amy Engleson and Heidi Hallenback. Engleson finished with a team-high 14 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Hallenback finished with an 11-point effort, a team-high four assists and nine rebounds.
Cazenovia shot a season-high 50 percent from three-point land in the game. The team was 9-for-18 from the three-point arc in the game. The Wildcat’s previous high was a 9-for-21 effort in its Thurs., Jan. 19, win at SUNY IT.
The men’s squad broke its eight consecutive-game losing-streak with its 86-71 win against the Raptors in the second of the two-game set. With the win, the Wildcats moved to 4-13 on the year and 3-5 in NEAC play.
Cazenovia jumped out to a 31-23 first-half lead by breaking the Bard pressing defense. With Bard pulling within one point at the 18:00 minute mark of the second half, and the score 33-32, Cazenovia withheld any and all Bard attempts at a comeback by going on multiple second-half runs.
Cazenovia’s Steven Harris (’09, Watervliet / Watervliet HS) led all scorers with a game-high and season-high 34 points. Harris who was deadly from inside and outside the three-point arc was 11-for-23 from the field in the game.
Steven Zavackis (’07, Carthage / Carthage HS) recorded with his second double-double in the last two games. Finishing with 14 points and 15 rebounds, Zavachis has four double-doubles in 2005-2006 and has recorded double-doubles in three of the four Wildcats’ wins.
Cazenovia’s Joshua Winans (’07, Afton / Afton HS) finished with a season-high 21 points. Winans has scored in double-figures in seven of the last eight Cazenovia games. Winans also recorded a game-high eight assists on the day.
Bard’s leading scorer was Adam Turner. Turner finished with a team-high 17 points and five rebounds.
The double-header sweep of the Raptors is the first back-to-back women’s and men’s win for the Wildcat’s this season.
A technical foul was called on Bard’s Collin Orcutt for unsportsman-like conduct at 47 second mark of the second half.
The Wildcats are next in action on Thurs., Jan. 26, when the D’Youville College Spartans are slated to play a NEAC double-header in Cazenovia, N.Y.
