Immaculata 71, Marywood 56

Immaculata, PA — Kyle Finklea scored 19 points to lead Immaculata University to its first Conference win in team history, a 71-56 triumph over Marywood University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Monday night. The Mighty Macs improve to 2-14 on the year (1-8 PAC). Lawrence Tompkins led Marywood with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The win was also the first for the Mighty Macs in Alumnae Hall, and their first win over Division III opposition. Immaculata earned the first win in its men’s basketball history on December 10, when it defeated Williamson Trade in the consolation game of the Rowan University Tournament.

The Mighty Macs took control of the game in the second half, using a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 52-35 with 7:11 remaining in the game. They would extend the advantage to as many as 21 points with just under five minutes to play in the game.

Dan Freed started the run with a three-pointer from the right wing with 11:20 to play. Dan Lepone hit a jumper on Immaculata’s next possession to give the Mighty Macs a 10-point cushion, 45-35. Freshman Sean Fordham made a steal and a driving layup with 8:19 to play, then Finklea ended the run with five in succession as Immaculata began to run away with the game.

Three other Mighty Macs joined Finklea in double figures. Dan Lepone scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Dan Freed had 13, and Julius Lopez added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Immaculata shot 45.2 percent from the field, and 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Mighty Macs forced 24 Marywood turnovers and converted them into 25 points.
