Ferrum 58, Shenandoah 55

FERRUM, Va. – — Ferrum College got a Rob Fuller three-pointer with .8 seconds remaining Sunday to give the host Panthers a 58-55 USA South Conference men’s basketball victory over Shenandoah.

The two teams traded the lead seven times and were tied on seven others before Fuller finally ended it for FC (5-13, 1-4 USA South) with his trey from the top of the key.

Shenandoah (8-6, 0-4 USA South) had tied the contest with 29 seconds remaining on a Mouktar Fawehinmi layup off of an in-bounds play. From there, Ferrum held the ball for the last shot. Fuller made the strategy work when went off of a screen and calmly drained his shot as time expired.

Following the play, .8 seconds were placed back on the clock, giving the Hornets a chance for a game-tying try. SU inbounded the ball and got it all the way down the court to Antwon Townsend, the nation’s No. 5 three-point shooter, but Townsend wasn’t able to get a shot off before the clock ran out.

The close loss wasted junior Jeremiah Lawrence’ seventh double-double of the season. He led all scorers with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman RaSon Alexander chipped in a career-high 10 in his second-ever start.

Jon Godsey led the hosts with 12 points.

Shenandoah shot 46.5 percent (20 for 43) from the field, but turned the ball over 25 times and was just 12 of 22 from the free throw line.
